I’m not sure if it’s the garage (s), the gargantuan driveway  or the internal decoration that makes this qualify for Ultimate Oppo...

I was ready to pronounce judgment based on the garages, but you're right, there's enough room for numerous cars on that driveway..

Hooray for semi- reasonably priced homes outside of large cities. I’d love to see how many millions would be requested in San Diego or NYC.

Here in suburban Birmingham, I found a 4/3 home with a 4-car garage on the main level PLUS 2 cars in the basement for around this price. Unfortunately, it needed a lot of minor interior work and this is close to the upper end of our price range. And with just 1.5 cars at the moment, I feel like it was just a little too much garage for us. I’m sure we’d grow into it...

Only one photo of the inside of the garage and it is confusing. What are those broad low shelves for?

And the sight of those pristine but very old appliances is actually encouraging. They may need to be replaced, but they show the place has been impeccably maintained. And all the interior fixtures are very high quality. This is actually pretty good if you get them down in price.

The house I currently live in was built in 1980 and still has the kitchen in all it’s 1980 glories, and I want to replace it sooooo bad. We have already done the floors, windows, doors, and one bathroom.

Kinja'd!!! fintail > getFuckedHerb
08/17/2020 at 13:12

Kinja'd!!!1

Whoa, kind of time warp-y inside, especially the kitchen. I bet it once had a fridge with facing matching the cabinets, too. Claims was last sold in 2018, but it gives off original owner vibes. I was a good guesser too, I thought “1978" by the exterior - there was a brief but strong faux tudor fad during that era. I might preserve some of those interior finishes just for laughs, especially the kitchen and rec room, which begs for a pool table.

Also cute that a 450K house is 93% more expensive than others nearby, I can’t imagine.  And the garage, nothing need be said.

VERY timewarpy inside. Keep in mind these photos are from when it was on the market in 2018 and sold so it is 100% original owner photos. The current owner didn’t even take photos of inside and listed it for sale by owner for 2 days on zillow and we caught it and got in.

Good luck with it. Looks like a cool place.  Assuming it has been maintained (and by the interior, someone loved that house), it’s probably no worse than a much newer build, and it has some personality.  A few upgrades here and there and it could be a comfortable longterm place.

Is almost as if they hadn’t touched in since the day it was built....crazy!

We had a similar experience, to a lesser degree, with the place we bought. 1989 build and the newest thing in the house was the oven from 08, after their original died and the fridge form ‘13 for the same reason.

Wait, you mean someone fucked with that kitchen and family room?!?  I suppose it has a granite counters, white cabinets and subway tile backsplash with stainless steel appliances.  Fucking boring. Every new house has this. That kitchen needed new flooring and that’s it!  The family room should be untouched. The master bath could be updated, but match the rest of the house.  Let me guess, it has barn doors installed somewhere.  God, I fucking hate barn doors in houses.

hahahaha You described our last remodel to the T. “Modern bungalow”. I’ll cop to putting a barn door in even. Not that it’s an excuse but we really had no choice other than a pocket door (the right choice but the wrong amount of money).

It sadly already has stainless appliances that are 3 months old so we’ll probably keep them a while until some/all of them move to the basement snack/bar area. I would like to do paneled to match the cabinets myself.

It will get wood floors, not sure if the cabinets will be white, we’re leaning towards cherry but we could go back to painted, we really liked our white.

The upstairs will get wood on the floors, not sure what will happen in the family room, the big fireplace and built ins will stay 100% and the ceiling will stay beamed. The sunk in area will probably stay but the padded bar will go. We wouldn’t mind a snack station down there with a fridge and a microwave and a dishwasher but we’re not really “belly up to the bar” folks with a 2 and a 4 year old.

That would be roughly $1m in San Diego for the house alone, in that condition. But the two acres of land will double that value.

If it were completely remodeled and updated, $3m-$3.5m easy.

won’t be full gut job, the drywall on most of hte walls is fine and the anderson windows, while old, are mostly in great shape so that will be a little at a time instead of having to do them all at once.
